I received an invite from a good friend to hit the standing colonial home site where I found my USA button two weeks ago. This was our third hunt at the property. It's a standing home so the finds can date from the early 1700's to yesterday. You can find a Revolutionary War button or a stinkin Lincoln. Ya never know. Today, I probably found a rare button for a detectorist. It's not rare as far as non-dug specimens but I don't think many detectorists have found one. It's a United States Military Academy at West Point button! My button dates no earlier than 1923. I also found a lead toy guy that looks like he's skiing. 117954134_10217636233121241_515972267855495295_n.webp117780509_10217636234201268_6591104701619460765_n.webp117667893_10217636234961287_4312893777310874267_n.webp117307340_10217636235281295_8248365143792014543_n.webp117390425_10217636232801233_6370375121784852074_n.webp118068026_10217636234641279_4415634287246789903_n.webp

WOWWW BUTTON!!! Grats!!

That site sounds like a lot of fun, a virtual grab bag of finds. I would dig it until it’s been dry of signals for two weeks :laughing7:

That button is a beauty and the toy guy is super cool! Congrats!

Congrats on the very nice finds! :icon_thumleft:

Nice finds Donnie, I was detecting at an old hotel outside West Point and dug a button I figured it was common junk..I happen to know a guy at the Museum introduce me to the curiator who looked at my button and ID It as pre Civil War Cadet. Derp I am so gald I didnt toss it.
The ones I like best are round ball button from West Point Uniform they date 1813 and a few large cents same spot all are very early ones. The buttons still have some gold on them. dug in a undiclosed location.

That's a cool find and in good shape too. Wonder how many zillions of buttons were cranked out over the years of the Waterbury, CT factories like Scovil?
