Chinese side of camp. 1909-s Injun!

Metal detected like crazy last weekend at the spot I found the gold coin at even sifted a 8 x 10 area around it. Only managed a 22 short unfired many nails and one ladies leather glove? Maybe the coin slipped into the glove and was lost? ( so i like to think). Anyway being remotivated I headed to the Chinese side of camp where I found a Chinese coin v nickel spill and a 1910 wheat on top of the ground. I though I hunted that side out too but the deus is much better than my old ace 350. Digging loads of trash, cause they only had canvas tents and the trash ended up everywhere I pulled 6 cigarette tins out of the same hole or 1x1 ft spot, two being on top. I through them off to the side because i was trying to clear a rectangle shape of rocks i could tell weighted a old tent down. Bam! Hard work definently paid off! 1909-s indian ! Always dreamed of finding a key date wheat like the 09 vdb but in the end ill take his older bro. Lightly rinsed when i got it home and the black globs it had on it after being dug washed off leaving the brown spots. Pretty happy though even coated in fine sand it has 4 diamonds and a full liberty.hh all.

You're definitely on to a good camp! I think I saw that you mentioned AZ in another thread...If we could get some good storms it might make for "new ground"... but it looks like this monsson season is going down as the driest ever.

Yeah just one those "lucky" sites. Clay is bedrock about 5 inches deep and its a straight dust bowl it can remove 1 to 2 inches of sand above it daily. As the wind takes the sand it reveals all finds sitting right on top of the clay bedrock, unless they sunk another half inch

What would be a proper way to clean it? I have never done so i just lightly rinse it and apply dawn once to keepthe corrosion away.

That is one of just 3 Indians I've never found, and being in Mass, probably won't, but that is an amazing find and big-time Congrats to you!! Being a key-date, obvious care needs to be used and I can't speak for how my method would work for you, but my method is to use a bowl of boiling hydrogen peroxide and let them soak and bubble, on both sides, for 1/2 hour to an hour, then I typically can then use a moistened toothpick or olive-oil dipped q-tip lightly wipe. Whatever you choose, GL- I hope it comes out as great as it appears it will and please post pics.

I'll probably get hissed and booed at, but if it were mine Id try soaking it in Kano Kroil penetrating oil. It won't harm metals. You can get it at Ace hardware and auto parts stores and the likes.

Congrats on the key date IH cent! IMHO: Just clean it with a toothpick and tooth brush. Water is not the friend of old coppers, neither is any other oil...etc.

I would soak it in acetone to help remove any remaining foreign material and arrest any corrosion. Then coat with CoinCare and put it in a 2X2 and/or album. Any kind of serious cleaning and you may reduce the coin's value.
