I love the carbon fiber shaft that my Excalibur is attached to, but never really liked the foam grip. To me, it's a little too soft. After getting waterlogged, the foam would compress too easy. Sometimes, it would even ride up the grip riser, and I would have to push it back on. I got to thinking about how it would be nice to have a grip like the one on my Ironclad, Viking digger as it's a lot firmer, and a little bigger around. So, I contacted Ironclad Tools, via eBay, and was able to purchase one of the yellow, 7/8" grips from them.
To install it, I removed the plug in the end of the grip riser, lubed the riser with a little soapy water, and pushed the grip on. It was a tight fit, and took some work to get it on, but the results were well worth it. The grip feels great in hand, and it imparts a better sense of control when swinging the coil. Also, there is enough of the riser showing, beneath the grip, that one could drill a hole in it to run pin-point switch wires through. That, and the top of the grip is pretty tough, and could probably be drilled to allow for mounting a switch?
Of course, this grip change may not be for everyone, but for me, it turned out to be just what the doctor ordered. Thanks for looking, and HH - bottlebum
