Well, you must admit it is a "scenic" photo! ;D

I had a request to post a photo and was not sure where to post it, but since I am the person who took this photo, I do not see why it cannot be seen here! This is one time I did good on shooting a silver coin and wow, what a silver coin it is. The red background on silver works very well.

This of course is not the one found by one of our members I believe last year, this was found by one of my friends who brought it to me to ask for help in what to do with it and for photographing it.

Ain't she purdy! This is what dreams are made of.

what dreams are made of indeed! that is the find of two lifetimes! :o :o the history behind those dismes is incredible.

WOW! When, Where, How, oh tell us more!

I'm sure YOU know, but for those who dont..........Nice!

Although the exact number is not known, it is believed that between 2,000 and 3,500 specimens were produced. Approximately 10% of these survive today; one expert estimated between 250 and 400 half dismes exist, and most appear to have been used in circulation for some time. An almost uncirculated (AU55) 1792 half disme was auctioned for $138,000 on July 24, 2004.[4] A specimen strike from the Starr collection, graded MS67 by PCGS (and probably the finest known), sold for $1,322,500 on April 26, 2006.[5]

What a rare find :)

WOWWWW If that would have been me finding that you would be reading my Obituary tonight. What a find

I would seriously Kill for that find...WOW!!!
Looks like it took a few hits from a trowel though???
I have done it too on a few good finds...Just goes to show you you never know what you might be diggin...Dig easy...

its also reported that the silver used to mint these coins came from george washingtons melted down silver ware. thomas jefferson was in possesion of the dismes after they were minted and before they were distributed. pretty amazing history.

The coin was found in a farm field and the dings are not from the finder, but more so from years of plowing and stones scratching it or part of the plow blade. They are old dings :)
I am sure that without that one major ding, that coin would have gone for greater amount than it did, but, what is, is, what is.

I still find that the day my friend brought it here and I got to hold it, was one of the few times I got a super rush on holding something so rare as far as coins go. Never thought I would see one of them. It was super that I got the privelage of photographing it for him.

I hope you all appreciate seeing the larger than life photo, since I believe mine might be the biggest photo of a half disme on the net! :)
