What are considered keepers in CRH

Hey guys
I am new to coin roll hunting and I would like some info on which coins to look out for and would be considered "keepers"
you know like old US currency, rare dates and mintmarks, low mintage years, or just any coins that i should look out for from the normal common
not worth keeping coinage
if you could list the coins "keepers" in order by denomination, that would be great:-)

You didn't mention your state (New England consists of Maine, Connecticut Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont) - so, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting your state for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome! Everyone does CRH for different reasons, some look for strictly silver, others for key date coins or errors. Best book for starting out is the Red Book of US Coins.

To Metal Detecting Stuff:
I already own that book, but is there any other coins other than wheat pennies,
old jeffersons and buffaloes, silver dimes, quarters, half dollars, etc. that I should look out for?
Any low mintage dates or special varieties that I should also search for?
All advice is welcome

There are literally hundreds of key date/low mintage coins. In common coins that are dug or found by CRH, look for wheats in the teens, a 1916D mercury dime ($1000+), three legged buffalo nickel, 1860s Indian Head pennies , a 1943 copper penny. Be careful cleaning a key date coin, as cleaning diminishes value. The reason I recommended the book is that it will tell you which years and mint marks are low mintage and valuable. I try to research the value on anything I dig or find in change that is over 50 years old.
