A whole roll of quarter being bicentennials ?
Thanks Coinguy!
We refer to Machine Wrapped rolls as MWR, and customer rolls as CWR. Mint rolls I call by their full name.
You can refer to them however you want but in my opinion Machine wrapped rolls are no different than bank wrapped rolls or BWRs. Here are two different searches on eBay one for Machine Wrapped Rolls and one for Bank Wrapped rolls you tell me which one is more popular with the hobby?
Good to see some new people on here enjoying the hobby. I love your enthusiasm and am glad to have you joining us. A word of advice, avoid the competitive spirit this hobby can bring, and try to bring some dignity back to this forum
Most people won't buy a crapshoot of a machine wrapped roll on eBay. That's why you won't see the results, it could be anything, and most likely nothing. That's why the ender rolls sell on eBay and not many others. YOu're getting a mix of circulated coins, which is better purchased at face value instead of off eBay if you really want to look.
The mint rolls are popular because you know what you're getting. They're brilliant uncirculated (MS 60- 65 most likely) coins of all the same design. Someone may buy a roll to find a high grade coin to sell at a profit, or for a personal connection to the year/design.
I am new to this site but well respected on other coin boards, there is no competition here just teaching and learning is all and as far as i see it this forum could use a few more knowledgeable people like myself. I am less inclined to post here if there is going to be a problem.
Here are some bank sealed boxes the same you can get at any bank for face value selling for a premium on eBay. These are also completed listings so they definitely sold. Im not going to pretend i know why people are buying these when they can just go to the bank but it proves roll enders and wheats rolls are not the only rolls selling.
1 Unopened Heavy Box of U s Pennies 2500 Coins Unsearched Copper Wheats Errors | eBay
1 SEALED Blue Box of Unsearched Nickels Possible Old New Errors Silver Etc | eBay
Unopened Monster Box 50 Rolls of Half Dollars Possible Silver Errors Etc | eBay
I was speaking regarding the statement why there are more mint rolls on eBay rather than machine wrapped rolls, because mint rolls are far more appealing to collectors and the general public. Anyone with a few brain cells to rub together will know to just go to the bank to get rolls of circulated coins, but the mint is offering collector oriented items which have a broader and more lucrative market. You will get much higher quality coins than you would if you were looking in boxes from the bank for that same year.
That's why I used words like "most" and "not many others" to explain why there are more mint rolls than machine wrapped rolls on eBay; I'm not speaking in absolutes, and I'm looking at the appeal of the product and the target market. Most people wouldn't pay around $50 for a box of circulated pennies unseen to have them shipped, but someone will be willing to pay $8 for a roll of new pennies from the mint if they're looking for a high grade for their collection. I have no idea why people would buy those boxes and pay that much more than face to have them shipped. They do, but it doesn't make sense.
My whole point is that most people in the hobby recognize the term Bank Wrapped Roll as accurate for the rolls that are rolled with a coin rolling machine since the machine is typically, and im not saying always owned by a bank branch.
