i'm wondering what the heck these are. there are 24 round wooden tokens a little bigger than a quarter in diameter and about 3/16" thick. 12 black and 12 white. each has a different bizarre image on it. i think they are german based on a couple of the images but not sure because one of them says "ILE BUST" (the expanding balloon-like thing, bottom left). i am wondering if they are game pieces or...?
they appear to be hand-inked, but it is hard to tell as each has a light varnished finish.
does anyone have any ideas? i have no clue.

The game of checkers has 12 pieces for each player so I think you are on the right track with game pieces.

of course, checkers...should've thought of that. i think you are probably right, back-of-the-boat.
i think they might be old german fairy tales.
