These are the first things I found with my new detector, I found them by my garage a couple inches under the ground, they were right next to each other standing up.

Those look like they may be some type of tent stakes or something.
Intersting.

Good luck!

Left looks like a lightning rod grounding spike, the other looks like a tent stake.

Don't know about lightning rods, but have seen a few grounding rods for house wiring..All were copper plated steel, about 5 or 6 feet long.

Definately looks like Grounding rod.

Was there a tv antennae on the garage at one time.
Or Shortwave radio antennae ?

a wire would have run from the antennae to the ground.
So if lightening hit the antennae, the charge would
follow the wire into the ground and dissipate.

The one on the left is definately a tent or awning stake from about the 1960's. I pounded many of them into the ground.

When you find something really cool the farthest thing from your mind will be grungy fingernails. It's a small price to pay... sigh... ;D

I honestly don't know if there was a radio or tv antenna on the garage, there has'nt been in the 3 years that I have been here, I don't know about before then, my dad bought the place and I live there and pay him rent so he has all the papers about the history of the place put away in a safety deposit box somewhere.

Both look like older tent pegs. Not long enough for good grounding rods. Also no copper plating. They could also be stakes for a newly planted tree. One on the right is homeade. One on the left could be also.

The one o the left is definitely a tent stake. If you look closely in the shadow at the top left ,you can see the tab that retained the rope.

I kind of thought the hook like one was homemade because of the way it was twisted, I read somewhere that is one way to tell if something (like nails) are machine made or homemade is machine made stuff is more straight and even.
