This object was found in England a couple of years back. I have been trying to figure out what it could be. It is not broken off something else so to see, although one 'arm' had a bit of a molding fault. I cannot see anything that shows it was attached to something else either.

It is a funny little thing. The patina is perfect, black and dark. Even after all the years in the ground. It was found on a small field where we found finds from every century, including the Bronze time. Sort of thing that this is about from the 15-17 centuries.

The metal. Difficult to know. It is not lead, or copper, I think. Tin maybe but what metal has such a perfect patina? Maybe Potin, a base metal silver-like alloy used in coins. It is typically a mixture of copper, tin and lead. I have found Celtic coins that were black and has a great patina also. I even do not know which side is up!

Wondering what Crusader thinks it is.....

Are the two ends solid or is there a hole of any sorts?

Maybe you could take it to a machine shop that has a metal analyzer ?

They are closed solid, only the right one has a bit of a dent caused by an air bubble or so during molding. The left one has a bit of rounding on the end. I cannot stand the figure on the 'legs' it just falls over. Funny thing also is that on the sides of the end of the 'legs' there are decorations (round).

Could do that but don't really think that is so important to know which metal. Maybe if it makes a difference I could do just that. Thanks.

It looks like a very crude casting of a pseudo-crucifix to me. I know there were plenty of crude castings.
