Kind of looks like the end of a sword scabbard. Also looks like something I've seen with old mule equipment/tack, but I can't recall what it was.

I was thinking scabbard also, but it is similar to the ends of the yoke that went across the chests of oxen or mules,,,, except there are no rings on the ends.

Looks like a buggy hitch end. Wooden rails went along the sides of the horse, The clips had something that hooked in and went under the horses chest and over their shoulders.

Floater, are you thinking it's some kind of armor??!! LOL.

I think nutso has my vote for now. It really does look like the piece on the ends of a buggy hitch.

It does look like a wenis. But I don't think it is!

Yes fastened to end of piece of wood but what did it do. Might be something missing. Might be for reaching up to do something above human height say 8 or 10 foot.

The only other thing I can think of is a peevy. It's used to roll logs, I have a new one but who knows what the old ones looked like. Maybe a chain hooked on it for that purpose. Pieces could be missing
