I hope the hallmark says STERLING in Japanese. What do I call it, an urn? Thanks. HLmrk.webpP1140265.webpP1140266.webpP1140267.webp

I need to set the white balance on my camera, sorry.

Seen them called ginger jars too. Tea caddy often has a smaller top,but... a ginger jar used for ginger might not be so good if metal.
My unprofessional guess would be that it is a ginger jar style tea caddy.

this is a japanese silver tea caddy (may be sterling, but the japanese often used a 950 alloy which is even better). the decoration is hand chased and of quite good quality. probably c. 1900-1920s. i'm sorry i don't read japanese, but the marks may also indicate the maker.

terrific find!!

well the top two characters... according to chinese translation is 纯银。which means pure silver in chinese.

Wonderful news Yang Hao. Thank you very much.
