Found this yesterday in a pasture which dates way back. I immediately thought it was a coin but it wad so corroded I couldn't make out any details. It's very thin like a button but there is no indication at all of a a shank having been attached. After a peroxide treatment and overnight soak in olive oil I found what I think is something deliberate, not just corrosion. I showed it to my wife without telling her what I thought ( she's not into this stuff at all by the way) and she said right away what I thought. So I'm bringing it to the experts here who are far smarter then me. In one of the pics I put a pen pointing to the area I'm talking about. I'll hold off saying what I see until some of you weigh in on your thoughts. If you see what I do I'm also wondering if there's any thoughts on exactly what it is. Thanks a lot for looking and your thoughts. The people on this site are the best.

Forgot the pic of how thin it was

1777 is what it looked like to me. But I'm a novice...

You didn't say we non-experts couldn't chime in, so....
Your pen looks to be next to a 1777 date. If you could take some pics in natural light, there might be some details to show what it is exactly.

The 1650's French Liard was as thin as a razor, and the same size as a Nickel, it was also very misshapen, I thought it was a flat button missing it's shank, I brought it to me coin dealer, it was a blank disk, he said,"It might not be a coin, it is co thin, and misshapen." He cleaned it, along with a 1838 Large Cent, for free!, then he said,"It IS a coin" It might be a french liard, I know they made them for a while.

My French Liard:

It looks like it could be a Spanish Maravedies coin, what is it's diameter? The 2 Maravedies coin should be 20 mm.

I'll post some daylight photos tomorrow old dude. Not sure it will help I looked it over real good w/ a magnifying glass and couldn't make out anything. Thanks a lot for your input

Coin man I posted a pic of it next to a ruler. Looks to be 1 inch in diameter. Not sure what that is in millimeters. Really thin but it has been eaton away,

I have a feeling that I also found one this year, u.s. coins from that era don't usually corrode like that but here is a pic of my in souIMG_20140804_000018.webp

1777 is what I was seeing as well. Just wanted some other opinions since it's in such bad shape thank you all. Gotta keep looking trying to find something that might at least match the dimensions.

GTFM what coin is that you have there? What is it's diameter?

Very nice coin find Mduece!
Isn't it terrible what cow urine can do to coppers! :laughing7:

I see 1777... but I am half blind. Very nice find. Congrats.

Ha ha it's settled then. If you can see it half blind Tom then I must not be imagining it's there. Thanks
