What do you dig with

Just looking for advise ive been using the below but not park friendly unless your park has gangs but usally scares the older folks and the park ranger. Just wondering for hard soil what others dig with.

I wouldn't take that thing to a park. They would automatically think you were prospecting for gold. I use a gator digger or a strong survivor knife. Mostly I use a screwdriver and have pretty good success with that tool and a brass probe.

Belive it or not the ground im trying to go through when wet is soft when hard which sine we have been in a 14month drought is like going through petrified dog poop

Ive been fabricating diggin tools for a few months, just made this one for digging in hard ground & rocks. Flat blade with notches on both sides, very heavy duty, never bend or break! All stainless steel construction, tig welded for strength. This is my first flat blade proto-type.

I use 3 digging tools.

1) For Ghost Towns and Lumber Camps I use the full size shovel shown below. It is thin, light weight, and strong. Vastly superior to a regular shovel.

2) For coin shooting and jewelry hunting I use the world's best digger...THE MIGHTY AP DIGGIN TOOL. Which was handmade by Mighty AP himself. In fact, I dug that massive gold chain with this tool.

3) For very nice lawns where I must limit damage I use this plugging tool shown below. These are sold on ebay and are also handmade.

Yes, I got it off ebay. I'll get the dimensions for you Mighty as soon as I get to where I have it stored. I put it up for the summer because this design really requires damp sod to work well. I use it mostly in the early spring for poping out clad and wheats on private lawns.

Wow. I have to say, the digging tool Mighty AP makes is flat out amazing to me. I can't imagine there is a way to make a better tool than this. Can't wait to try it!

I am new to the MD world but these are a few of the items I have been looking at .The plug pullers pull a plug about 3" in diameter x 4-5" deep and then open to automatically drop it out of the shoot with a pull or squeeze of the handle depending on if you are using the long one or short one. The trencher comes in 2,4 or 6" widths I think and seems to be very strong much more so than a standard shovel .The little shovel is all fiberglass and cost about $2 or $3 .

I found a tool at the Target store in my home town, just like the one posted above. Its called a garden knife, and it cost me ten bucks. Its good for cutting small flaps in sod, and getting roots out of the way. They had a Plug-cutting tool on the wall right beside the knife (3 pics up, in Danger's post above) it costed 3 bucks and was called a bulb-planter. Bulb planter only seems usefull in soft clean soil (no roots or many rocks). Personally i had better luck just cutting a flap in the sod rather than cutting the plug all the way out. The grass seems to survive better.

I got the same one Diggemall has in the picture above It works great, is strong and only costs $9.99 at Meijer. It's sharp and the serrated edge cuts easily through small to medium roots.

using a lesche, i think i paid 40-50 bucks, has a serrated edge red handle, looks similar to the serrated ones posted here, plus lifetime warranty. i live in desert with extreme ground conditions, those shovels from lowes, home depot or walmart SUCK. did i mention they SUCK, i have bought their most expensive ones and they bend or break the first day out!!!!!! but the lesche is the ak-47 of diggin tools i am actually on my second because i lost my first one, running from something

red brick it is good and strong 7" long it cuts agood hole in soft or hard ground you can get them at eney hardwere store
