Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I own a Tesoro Cibola and think it is a great machine, even thought it is a backup to my Fisher CZ5, I was wondering what do everyone find with their Tesoros? Eric Lawes, the gentleman in England who found the fortune in priceless Roman coins and artifacts in England while looking for a neighbours tools that fell off his tractor in a field he was plowing was the best I've ever heard of. He was using the Silver Saber I believe. That was about 15 years ago.

So what are your best everyday finds with Tesoros? Just curious because when I read about all the great finds with metal detectors, Tesoros are rarely mentioned. Just like to hear about your finds with a Tesoro detector.

OK I've found lots of stuff!!!! My best is probably a 18K gold ring found last year at a playground. I too have a Cibola and really enjoy it, although I recently bought a Whites M6, I keep the small coil on the Cibola for cleaning up. I truly believe many Tesoro owners rarely brag because we don't need any more competition!!!!!

In my opinion Tesoro makes the best detectors there is. I have had alot of different makes & models over the years and always go back to a Tesoro. I am using a Silver uMax now, even though it is not a "top end" machine I have found more jewelry with it than any detector that I have ever used. I just love it, it is as deep as most detectors/great discrimination/light weight/pinpointing is a breeze with it/hits hard on jewelry and coins. It is always nice trying different detectors but I don't think that I could better myself with anything more than a Silver uMax. Steve (upstate New York).

Hey Greg
How do you compare the Cibola to the M6 when it comes to depth, discrimination, stability, etc?

Well, they're 2 totally different machines, I think depth they are about equal. The Cibola is extremely accurate on targets with just a simple "x" while the M6 is not quite as easy(yet). The M6 gives you tons of info about the target which can be good and/or bad. The main reason I wanted the Whites was for the VDI numbers, makes digging nickels and some coins a liitle easier. I always dug alot of trash with the Tesoro and wanted to spend less time doing so.They are both very good machines and each have their strong points. I'll be keeping both for sure!!!!!

Newfiehunter,

I'll jump in and say I had a great gold jewelry year in 07. I'm using a Tesoro TS in our fresh water lakes here in CT. and can't wait for the 08 season to start! Joe

Lets see clad coins, silver coins(1917 walker Half), silver jewelry(3 rings,1 chain) I think Tesoro users find the same things as people who use other brands. I used to own a Whites Quantum XT and I have found more with my Deleon than I did with the Whites if that says anything. I just think it is how often and where u go personally.

Lots and lots of relics. Many old coins, with a little jewelry mixed in.

Ian

My Tesoro finds what ever metal is in the ground where I am detecting. If theres nothing there, it finds nothing, if its there it finds it. I have found a couple of wheat cents. A brass belt buckle. A silver angel pendant. An axe head. A couple of old files. Lots of clad. A gold plated chain. A silver ear ring. I certainly get more depth with my Deleon than my BH. Every once in a while I take them both out and compare them. I'll get a signal with the Tesoro and see what the bounty hunter tells me it is or if it even can "see" it. more depth with the Tesoro with out question.

Thanks Greg and Joe (and everyone else) for the imput! I was impressed by the performance of the Cibola and now considering the Tiger Shark for water hunting. Got to say, I did underestimate Tesoro but glad to say I purchased one. Got to give Tesoro credit for making great detectors.

The cibola is a great machine for small silver hammered coins .I came back from Germany with a nice collection of them. Now I use the vaquero mainly and find lots of wheats and nickles. I have not found any silver in a couple of weeks but I have not been to any real productive places in a while due to gas being 3.80 a gallon. ???

I just ordered a Cibola, it should be here this week. I'm really looking forward to it. It will be my primary relic machine. Time to find some more Civil War stuff. My Ace250 is great for yards and schools, but doesn't have the depth capability that I want for relics. I can't wait!!!!

Hey Digginman!
Congrats on your Cibola purchase. Even though I like the Cibola, very lightweight, stable and great discrimination it is my backup to my CZ5. That's because of the Visual ID. However, I would add that sometimes there is a tendency to rely too much on Visual ID. Some of my best finds were with detectors without visual discrimination. Got to get to using the Cibola more.

How do you know when there's nothing there...? :icon_jokercolor:

Because I'm using a Tesoro and if there is metal there it finds it! No beep, no metal

Scattered.........What do you mean you "tweaked" your machine?? Are you an electronics tech? I don't particularly think its a good idea to go messing with a metal detectors electronics. Then again maybe you know what your doing with that stuff. I know that the coil is very sensitive to banging ect. I hope you have more luck. I think you are hunting an area that's been done before. By all means don't give up. You will hit a good area sooner or later. I like your ideas for improvising. Try hunting after a good rain.the wet ground makes a big difference and of coarse easier digging. You also are probably right about buried electric lines and pies ect. Hope I've been helpful. Cheers, Shane

What do I find with my Tesero? Well how about a 36 Buffalo and a 42 Quarter in the same hole? How about a 21k gold ring in a tot lot? How about a 48 silver dime? Or how about a 1937 Walker 1/2 dollar under a clothes line at an old home site?

These are some of my better finds with my Vaquero, Beale.

I find Gold, Silver, Relics, coins (Clad and Silver) and lots of junk, nails Copper and Zinc.
Best find this year was a Ship wreck coin from the DeBraak and a 1907-D Half Dollar.

Newfiehunter,I own both the Tiger Shark and the Cortes which in my opinion are the best combination of machines to thoroughly cover an entire beach. I hit the water normally first depending on the tide with the standard col that came with the machine then i hit the dry sand with the Cortes sporting the 3' x 18" clean sweep coil which I sent to Tesoro and had it tuned to the machine. This machine and coil combo is unbeatable if your want to cover a large area in a short amount of time and yes I have had great success. The biggest and most important thing to me and should be to everyone in this hobby how the manufacturer stands behind their equipment and my opinion is you will not find any that come close to Tesoro, they are just awesome.

My best find was a Civil War ID tag I found with the Cibola, a great machine in most ground, and the one I take along when I want no hassle, deep detecting.
