What does 417 ASK mean?

I picked up a ring in a second hand store and it is very likely gold but I'm not
100% sure, the stamp/halmark is: 417
ASK

Any ideas? Is this some kind of plated costume jewelry?

On the face of the ring is an initial, the letter K. It is a simple
and thin gold monogram type ring. Probably 10 years old
when gold was much cheaper.

TIA for your input.

Here is a reply I found on the same question. It is real gold.

the "417" stamping on the item in question is a Karat mark for 10kt gold. Yes it is gold and its not fake.....it is 41.7 pure gold and the balance are alloys. In the case of 14kt gold it would be stamped either 14kt or 58.5 indicating its 58.5 pure gold and the balance alloys the same with 18kt which is 750 or 75 pure gold.

10 K or 41.7 % pure is the minimum level that will retain golds properties --ie it will not turn--- gold and silver often use 3 digit numbers to show how pure it is -- in a 1000 basis --- so 41.7% pure would be 417/1000 th pure gold by weight.---- 925 is normally used for sterling silver --- 750 is 18 K gold ---- 625 is 15 k --14 k often used in jewelery is 58.5 % gold . many european made goods often have % numbers rather than "k" markings. as it more exact and often required by law in some countries.
