What does gold look like after being buried in dirt, sand and salt water?

I found a necklace I lost , well my dog did well digging in my yard. I lost it 6 years prior to finding it. I cleaned off the dirt and it shines again. This picture is right after I picked it out of a hole before I cleaned it up. I did shake/brush off some dirt when I picked it out though.

1st - I noticed this was your very first post. So, Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country)...

NOTE: Forum HELP! contains guides tutorials on how to use the new TreasureNet.com software.

Depends on the purity of the gold. 24K pure gold won’t react with much of anything in the soil. Gold coins have some copper so you might see some patina on those.
