I'm told it's a WWII era .30 carbine bullet.

But, what is the 43? A date maybe?

Most likely 1943. If you can clean the rim around the primer a little better and give us the letters we can tell you who made it/what ammo plant it was from...

depending on who made the bullet, it could mean 1943, the year it was made, or it could be an arsenal code (the axis liked to try to keep that info private)

Maybe there's a serial number etched into the bottom of the bullet? :)
