A Trebuchet! A medieval thing-flinger. Not a catapult.
I made this thing about two years ago after work and on Saturdays.
I have been interested in and researching trebuchets for a while. One thing leads to another...
I had some 2x3 and 3x4 oak lumber lying around so...
Spent a small fortune on bolts and washers.
Don't think it will help you find treasure, but it will help in embedding metal in the ground for future generations.
STATS.
All main beams and arm made of oak, some bracing made of treated pine.
14ft to the top of main arm.
10ft main arm made of 3 pieces laminated oak.
10ft x 10ft footprint.
1 to 4 ratio main arm.
Weight bucket has had 600lbs+ in it, can hold more.
Metal lined trough for fire resistance.
Trebuchet designed to throw a 6lb caliche ball 100 yrds. Best throw; 109 yards.
Very light trigger mechanism, safety rope installed.
Can be fired from as far away as wanted.
Makes great coleslaw when you throw the cabbages at a tree.
Pumpkins make a very satisfying KATHUMP sound when they hit the ground.
Found a way to throw fire with it that does not endanger the machine...much. The neighbors haven't said anything yet.
Release pin can easily be changed in a few minutes.
Whoever decides to buy it will be given hands on training in mechanism, setup, usage, and upkeep.
Since making it I have had two medieval festivals on my place.
Asking $4000.00, willing to trade
