I have been metal detecting abut 4 years now. During that time I must have cashed in at least a thousand dollars worth of clad. A lot of it was pretty rough, especially the pennies. I just took them to the local coin star machine and ran them through. Then I'd collect the ones that failed to clear the machine and roll them up and deposit them into my bank account. For the past few weeks I have noticed that I get a whole lot of really rough pennies back in change from the local convenience store where I buy gas! I truly believe that the bank has just been sending them out to the local stores without checking them and I'm getting my own trash coins back! I tried to get the bank to swap me out good pennies for the bad, but they wouldn't do that. They gave me a sheet telling me how to get the treasurey dept to swap them out for me but it was too complicated. So, I will just continue to roll them up and deposit them and the cycle goes on! You can move here Monty! Then I can get Monty hugs all the time!

Dear Monty! Rolling your own is always a good idea.

As for the bank pushing those crap coins off on the outside world, consider that it costs the government more for LP gas to melt down a billion of those suckers than what the metal is even worth.

Personally I think the whole world should revolt against those memorial pennies. They're nothing more than a subtile form of pollution. I hear they even turn up at digs in the Valley of the Kings!

I think I'll start marking them with a felt tip just to see if I'm getting them back! Monty

yea that might do because there is an army of guys that md here and some of the coins i get back are terrible.

Once again my call goes out. We should get a tax break for finding money, and returning it to circulation. Saving the mint countless replacement costs on lost clad is a positive thing.

Just don't tell 'em how much you find until it's oil on skin, otherwise it's a tax liability for sure. All 11 cents!

They will start replacing them when the copper wears off and folks start mistaking them for dimes... LOL
