I've found about a dozen of the item shown below with my metal detector over the past few years. Most of the times the item is broken, but this one looks to be complete. I've found them in peoples yards in town, as well as in farm fields where homesteads were leveled. The item appears to be molded from a dark colored slurry, is fairly light weight at less than a pound, is fairly brittle, is about six inches long and one inch in diameter, and of course must contain metal as my E-Trac reads 13 - 01 on this specimen. Anyone have an idea what it is?

Solution
Hunting near a railroad? I find those along the tracks near my house. Pretty common. Gary
