What if Steven King was right? (caution religious theory)

We are dead and this is hell.

if hell is defined as being distanced from god,
how much farther could you get than on a different plane of existence?

What if when the one language was split from the tower of babel the one religion was split also?
If we were scattered through not only tongues but theocracies. Each having a small part of the puzzle, knowing that we could only come together as one people once we could once again understand each other not only verbally but spiritually.

If this is hell, and the theory of reincarnation and enlightenment would make sense, hell would be a test. Distanced from god, you are set upon the world to prove your worthiness to come home. do well, and you advance, do poorly and you suffer in the next life. Only by a continuous pattern of right mindfulness and Christ like action could you "ascend" unto heaven.
