Wedge to used to split timber logs. Alos used when cutting down large timber to hold the saw kerf open.

Find it around a forested area?

If so, my guess is that it's a wedge used in falling timber.

Yes forest area

We also used these when we would cut timber to fence post length and it was the tool to split that log into fence post sizes. Now they have log splitters that are gas powered.
