Dbsmonkey,
DUDE, do you guys all work on Tesoro's parole or what? I am SERIOUS. MY MACHINE WAS CRAP!!! Besides what I have already said, the Eldorado's was further unusable on Washington's high black sand beaches, wet or dry. It chattered like a squirrel in a tree and or ground balancing was impossible.

Since you couldn't ground balance it, it definitely had a problem with the GB circuit which repair could have fixed and Tesoro would have done it for free. The Eldorado is a lot deeper than the lil Ace and has a faster response time between targets.

We are not on Tesoro's payroll. You can not mock a fine detector like a Tesoro and compare them to the Ace which is a newbie detector. Your Eldorado could have been bought used or just had a problem with the batteries. You didn't mention that you took it back to the dealer. Most VLF detectors can't operate well on any black sand beach, Aces included. You didn't contact the company to get it fixed so you can't blame the detector brand. The dealer that sold you that "crap" didn't carry Tesoro's anymore probably because Tesoro dropped him from the authorized dealer network for some reason. Kellyco can't sell Tesoro's either as they aren't up to their standards.

I own many detectors and have been at this hobby for many years, land, wading and diving. Tesoro's are one of the best out there with Superior customer service. When you get some more years under your coil you can have real opinions that we'll listen too.

YEP!!!! WHAT HE SAID!!!! >:(
If I work for Tesoro, I sure have missed a lot of paychecks. >:(

I bought a Tesoro Cortez after over a month of reading every article I could find. I was stuck between a Tesoro brand, a Whites and Minelab. After GOIO (fellow Tnetter) let me use his whites and Minelab at a school that is loaded with coins. I decided against both and bought the BIG C. Its light, pinpoints well, easy to ground balance in all metal, has a back light for low light conditions, and the screen gives plenty of info, (which I like). My ace 250 is a back up and will let folks that may want to go with me that have never MD'ed use it to see if they like the hobby. Also, the lifetime warranty was the final straw in my decision. I am not on Tesoro's payroll either but dont mind giving free advertising on a product this good. TMAN...

I’m sorry you had a bad experience with your Tesoro Eldorado. If there is one thing that really ticks me off it’s buying something brand new, getting it home and finding out it doesn’t work. I recently purchased a Compact computer by HP. After we got it home (30 miles each way) and got it hooked up we found it had a problem. I didn’t want a brand new computer with a problem so after consulting with technical support in INDIA who, by the way spoke a different english language that either my wife or myself, we took it back to Office Depot and exchanged it for another. We got that one home and by gorra the same problem. Now I’m thinking HP sent Office Depot a bad batch so we returned this one to Office Depot and opted for a different brand in the same price range. I’ve been buying and using HP products for over 35 years and I’ll continue to buy HP in the future. Also the support I got from Office Depot was great. What does this have to do with Tesoro? Well with electronics it seems to be the nature of the beast. Even with the best of companies there are things that fail. I wish it wasn’t so but that is the way it is. Now in relation to your Eldorado I’m curious what Tesoro said when you called them about your problem? I called them the other day and a real live person answered the phone, it was liking to my sister across town. She transferred me to another real live person who not only answered my question but provided me with additional information in regards to my detector. He never acted as if he were short on time or tried to hurry me and he spoke in a language I could understand. I was impressed to say the least.

I’ve got three Tesoro metal detectors, a Vaquero, and Eldorado and a Conquistador . I bought the Vaquero new. The others were purchased used and I feel confident that if anything ever happens to any of them I will be able to get them fixed and that’s a good feeling. What do I like about them? I guess I’d have to say first: the support of the company, then the simplicity which translates to switches and knobs instead of programs. Third I like the light weight and I guess forth the dependability. I guess the selection of coils and the price would have to be in the list some where. Are they the end all of detectors? Na, there are lots of good detectors out there, they just happen to be the ones that I like. I’m glad you like your Ace, Get out there and have fun with it. By the way, you probably won’t hear me say anything bad about HP either.
Good diggin to you

I have had about ten different machines and after buying a cibola about two and a half years ago I can not find any reason to go back to a heavy detector when the tesoros due the job. They go deep and pull coins from iron infested sites and the weight is the lowest in the industry.

Boy that's a laugh! I've caused more trouble on the Tesoro forum than anybody. I really like Tesoro but I've warned again and again about the company's failures to advance the models. If Tesoro and Nautilus don't kick their butts in gear soon they'll be no such companies (maybe under foreign ownership).

Actually as everyone knows I change brands almost weekly ;D I buy and test lots of brands and models every year. I do this as a hobby and nobody pays me to do it.

Right now the detector that impresses me most is the Garrett Infinium AWESOME!!! I'm not ready to do my online field review yet but about 1 month into spring I should be there. So far I'm really impressed!

Oh, and like I've written right along, that Whites MXT is not getting it's fair share of praise. It's a great detector!

And that Minelab Sovereign GT is sweeter than honey from the honeycomb!

Hang in there and try a non-defective Tesoro sometime.

Just my 2 cents from a newbie. I really like my Vaquero and I have done very well with it. It's a simple detector to operate, but you and your brain have to do the interpreting on what it is telling you. No problems with mine, except for a cracked cover. I am really impressed with the depth capability of the Vaquero. Never dug out a coin deeper that 7 inches, but last week I dug out my first V nickel at 11 inches with a repeatable signal both directions. Conditions were ripe with wet ground and a silty loam. Sorry you had problems with yours. I will probably buy the xterra 70 to see what the hype is about minelab or is the soveriegn better?

Tesoro makes metal detecting fun and easy. So buy a Tesoro!

Too bad you bought a Compact computer! They are terrible. While some people have had no trouble with theirs, Compact is NOT noted for great computers. Hewlett Packard bought them out, so people say,
"Hey whats the problem? Its and HP and HP's are good." Thats true, but when HP bought Compact, they bought the technology as well, and there has been no change. Compact is still a Compact and there is no getting around it. It isnot HP technology. I hate to call someone's product junk, but thats where I stand with the Compact. HP computers are usually pretty good. I imagine you bought it at WalMart of Bust Buy? Usually the compact is cheaper to buy than other name brands. Hopefully you got the thing fixed and won't have anymore problems. Acer is another computer to avoid. But we were talking about Tesoro(:-)

Actually we replaced it with a Gateway. I have no idea how it will hold up. We have two other Compaqs, my laptop, which is doing fine, and my wife’s old desk top, which she insisted needed replaced, hence the reason for a new computer. It’s still in the basement hooked up to an old obsolete HP scanner. We also had Compaqs in our design office when I was still working and they were OK. But who knows with electronics and Microsoft software, they could crash at anytime and the warranty is useless. If they were as proud of their product as Tesoro is of their detectors the warranty may be a bit more beneficial. I must say Office Depot did well by us. I really do appreciate Tesoro and their commitment to customer service.

HP computers junk, HP printers OK. Tesoro OK, wjites OK Garrett OK Minelab too dam heavy! Bill

>>>>>>>>>>All that, PLUS they are made in America. <<<<<<<<<<

YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!! ;D

But I suspect many of the parts are made somewhere else. Thats ok though,as long as the parts are goodquality.

Well, your lucky with regards to your computers. As long as the dang things work and get the job done! :D

I am telling you I have found MORE coins in a week with an Ace 250

Hi DB,
Sry to hear you've had probs w one of my preferred tool brands...

Look, no one else has yet stepped up to the plate, so I shall.

I'll swap you a Garrett Ace 250 in fine condition and good working order for that Tesoro El Dorado you are unhappy with. Straight up.

Send me a PM for particulars.

I've never been one to believe in problems. Solutions are EZ enough.

The only problem I have had isn't with the Ace but with the 9x12 coil.
I had the sensitivity setting on 4 and did an airtest with a dime and a quarter and it didn't pick up past the first 2-3 inches. Now thats bad. I set the sensitivity all the way up and it picked it, the dime and quarter, up at 7 to 8 inches. That just doesn't sound right to me. I sould not have to boost the sensitivity so high in my opinion. I threw some coins out on the ground to practice with the pinpoint and didn't do any better.

I took the Ace to a ball field today. The ground was like frozen concrete, but I survey the area. Lots of good targets to dig when the ground thaws, but I notice the targhets were mostly 2-4 inches deep. With my MXT I get targets at 5 inches plus. The 9x12 coil wasn't getting past 4inches. even running with sensitivity at half or on fuul blast.

ANy ideas?

The MXT is a great machine! I used it primarily for nugget shooting, and got fed up with people on prospecting forums saying it wouldn't find as small gold as the GMT. So, I would show them the "specks" I got with the MXT and 10" elliptical, and then stated that if one wished to find smaller gold than that, he'd best be out panning or sluicing rather than detecting. Not only this, the MXT's auto ground balancing handled desert mineralization far better than any other vlf gold machine that I've used. It's also light and well-balanced, which in my book is a great plus.

As far as a coin shooter I suppose I never really gave the MXT a fair shot, although I did take it out to the park numerous times and at the very least I can say is that on clad coins the meter was very accurate. But as with all metered detectors, the chore is in the learning curve of reading the meter and I just don't have the patience for meters at this point.
