Jeff, where did you find it?

Looks kind of like an old hair thingie.... what where those things called? Not a comb, but the ones that have the clip. Was it just a hair piece, something like that?

No Markings But it Looks like it would have been Fastened by the 2
"tongues" I circled Below.
The other 4 Holes, I don't know.

it was found at this (House? Railroad Office ? Canal Office ?)
Can't find history on it.

yea it appears to be.

and it DOSN'T appear like it had 2 tongues on the other side that are Broken off. the edge is too smooth.

I'm thinking something to strenghthen...like an edge or corner...to be bent and tacked in place.

If it is, it was never used.

Definately was Never bent in Half.
the one Tongue (Bottom one in pic)was at a 45 Degree angle when found,
but I don't know if it should have been

Never used maybe. I would guess at least the tongues would be bent over and tacked or screwed. For something very particular. :-\

Separation plate to some type of clock or timer or some type of mechanical mechanism?
Because of the other holes, not counting the tab holes..and made of brass as was the custom up to the 60's or so. Good puzzle!

I also thought that, because of the 4 small holes.

But wanted an Independent Opinion without Me Suggesting it.

It would be TOO big for a Watch,

But Clock, Could Be. THANKS !

As for BRASS ? it's easy Bendable, & the color reminds me more of copper.

I guess the holes aren't right to be tacked on. The clock or timer idea sounds better if its brass. :-\

The shape looks a lot like a butterfly and I can imagine it being painted as such although I can't imagine what it may have been used for! Monty
