What is it?

This was found in the solent 60 years ago after being dragged to the surface by a fishing net. It is wooden. Any ideas of what it is or where it may have come from??

Might be a decorative carving from the stern castle of a 17th/18th C shipwreck - can you post a photo of the back of the piece that shows how it may have been attached to something? The attached is of the Vasa - a much earlier ship but you get the idea.

yes i will get a photo asap as the piece is at my uncles house. From what i have been told there is a sort of 'cut out' area in the chest area, as if it was placed on top of something or attached to something like you mentioned.
