I agree with Panache it is a railroad spike....if it is 9" to 10" long.

there were blacksmiths that were hired by RR companies to make stuff on the spot and keep things moving.If there was a need for a differant type of spike,for whatever reason,bam they had it.they also kept the tools going.

ask yourself this...if not RR...then what needed to be that large?

I have to agree with ''AU'', it looks to long for a railroad spike. The pointed end is too flat, and is wider so as to keep it easing back out.
