What is it?

Can anyone tell me what this is? We found it buried in the woods behind our house. Apparently it was attached to something wooden that rotted away. It's rusted metal and about 16 inches long.

Reminds me of a coat hangar that was attached to the inside of a closet door maybe.
I have seen that shape before,,,

A shelf support maybe ? Not sure why it has those rings, other than hanging something on them underneath the shelf?
