I found this awhile back and was wondering what it was and
what the value of it might be. I will say it was found in the
Maryland Chesapeake Bay tributary area if that's of any help.

There are cuts in the grooves in the stone that show it was
obviously worked but the images don't show enough detail
of the work. In the last image you might be able to make out
some of those cuts in the grooves. It's hard to get a good
digital image with detail.

It seems to be very old and the stone does not look like it's
native to this area.

Looks like a uniface scraper...no real value.

I find a lot of those. I find them all on village and camp sites. I would call the one like you found a chopper or hand ax, probably used in butchering meat. If you found it close to where the Indians left it, you might find broken points, scrappers and other tools, as I have.

I also find rocks like those unworked, but with obvious signs of use as hammerstones. I once found two of different sizes, six inches apart and another of a different size a few feet away.

Romeo could be right about monetary value. I don't know what somebody might pay for something like this. It certainly has historical value and might me an indication of other things nearby.
