What is the law exactly regarding prospecting near bridges

To be exact I am talking about in ca. on county maintained roads. A friend and I were arguing discussing this. I thought it was ten feet to either side and underneath. I tried to do a search but came up empty.

Call the county and find out what there right of way is. Should be so many feet each way from the center of the rd. I would start there.
