Welcome to Tnet from Toronto! :hello:
Interesting find, it also appears to have been a surface find due to the lack of heavy rust.

I have to agree with ARC here, it's likely a finial from the top of an iron fence... sorry Micheal. :laughing7:

Nice find,
Dave

Looks like an old balance beam scale weight to me.

Im pretty sure it's cast iron with a little bit of copper. The inside is solid and there are no visible inscriptions. If anyone could help me identify what this is, that would be great!
Grab a tape measure, get some better lighting.
Take a few photos of proper measurements
A picture of either opening so we can see inside.
Show the copper you are referring to.
Thank you

(Reason for stating the above I have no idea how big that hand is)

I agree with others, finial for fence, sign pole or grate railing. There were so many different types, a foundry could make most any design someone wanted to top a fence If the quantity was large enough.

As mentioned on another forum I feel it is a vintage finial for old iron fences.

It's like talking to a final.
I guess the OP can't answer any of the questions either.

I still think it is a hanging beam scale weight.
