What is this? (found in UK)

I'm in the UK, is this a saxon brooch? I haven't cleaned it, the mark on the back is just a clump of soil.

does that look like a stone...maybe turqoiuse in the center...or just metal?

The little bit at 4 o'clock in the middle shines a little bit when tilted at an angle, a little bit like a shiny metal, but I'm not sure what it is.

I don't think it's Saxon- it looks more 18th or 19th century to me. Not sure, though.

For one thing, it looks like it might be plated/gilt, which I'm not so sure the Saxons had the technology to do?

Almost certainly a brooch, though, and old- just maybe not THAT old.
