What is this. Some type of tool?

I found this metal detecting along with a musket barrel, a steel file and brass buttons. It is 2 inches long and the size of a pencil and I think made of brass. It screws apart in the center with some type of screw attachment. It also has threads on the other end for something to be attached. I thought it might go on the end of a ram rod to remove musket balls but it seams to small in diameter. Any help appreciated greatly.
