What is this strange rock i found?

hello all you rock hunters ,i was metal detecting in a open field on a river on the Northern California coast and this rock set my metal detector off so i picked it up and wow its really heavy and well i was just wondering your thoughts or if anyone knows what it might be i would really be so grateful to here what it might be?

Hi, was the signal a positive rising one as the detector passed over it both ways, a negative dropping one, or rising one way dropping the other.
Searches show rocks that look just like that from black jade, numerous other rocks through to meteorites. Is it magnetic?
