looks like some type of Plug. there may have been a Rubber Ring Seal in the part near the top.

why it looks to me like you've got yourself a really old dime*(edit) there, maybe 1918 ??? :D

Looks like it may have been some type of tie-down. It might have slid into a hole, then a pin of some type would slip through the open slot keeping it from sliding out... No real clue,, looks interesting though,,, keep us posted...

I always thought it looked like some sort of pin from a WWII land mine. The guy who lived at the house was a WWII Veteran. Who knows ???

Would have had a leather seal, or a couple of them stacked. I have one around here somewhere a bit larger that was used in a pipe buried vertically, in a basement floor (cistern) built in the 1890's.

Put a couple of leathers on it, and attach a rod, and it fits into a hand-pump housing.
