Hi, Does anyone have an idea what this might be? It was part of a box lot I purchased at an auction. Looks very old. Thanks

Looks like one half of an ornate, maybe victorian dress buckle.

That did cross my mind but it has a bale or closed metal loop on the back at the top similar to a brooch which can be pinned or worn as a pendant. Do you think this is part of a buckle that could be worn as a pendant or would that "bale" used as part of the buckle?

Half of a buckle, the other half had a hook.
