Does anyone know what this used to be. I found it about a foot and a half in the ground and roots had grown over it so I'm thinking its been there a while.

Not sure what it used to be, but I'm pretty sure what it is now.:laughing7:

So I guess you don't know, why did you post then?

It would be a great help to have multiple photo's of your item. Different angles and maybe something to show how big it is (pen, coin, soda can.....anything that people are used to seeing everyday and know the size). Do you have a VDI number that goes with it? Do you know if it's iron, brass, copper steel, or aluminum? Maybe even weight? All these things would help your with your question. The picture you provided is kinda like looking at an abstract piece of art, no one knows what it could be without getting some hints or background first.

I understand what you are talking about and I probably should have posted different angles. I just wanted to see if someone may have recognized this as I took the picture just before leaving for work. I am new to metal detecting and obviously don't know the correct ways, I'm a little sry for asking now. But still curious on why you comment if you don't know. I believe if someone saw something similar it would be obvious without my having a pen, tape measure, scale, ruler, mirror, the tool I used to dig it up with, the time of day & a sample of the soil it came from. I just asked a simple question if anyone may know what it is and that's it. I know now that this site isn't for me, thanks *******s!

Wow mr. We just need some info to help you out. If you want someone to help id it then you may want to be nicer. Just an observation. O by the way since you want an answer I think it is from a claw foot tub, one of the claws? Hope this helps you.

I actually have an idea but I wouldn't want to be incorrect and get my butt chewed so I'll keep it to myself.

Haha, good for you! It kinda sucks when you offer some help and get badgered for it.

Well I was going to throw in my two cents, but since your going to be a newbie azz. Good bye. :violent1:

"Oh My" said Dorthy!! It is an "L" shaped thing, I like the possibility of it being a claw foot from a tub but honestly I've never seen one either. It would be nice to have a bit more of an input on it, is a magnet attracted to it?...........63bkpkr

I know exactly what it is. Seen LOTS of em.

It's called a Leavarite!

Is he talking about the Leavarite, or the riffled black thing it's sitting on? I was gonna guess bed liner from a pick up truck. Oh well. There is your answer and I agree. That is a Leavearite. Manufactured through several years by several different companies. It's a very common item to find when detecting...but that is a particularly nice specimen. Mine are always bent the wrong way. Any fine jeweler can tell you the value of it. Let us know.

Just throw it in the scrap iron pile, you will get a few cents for it.
