I believe it is part of a cabinet latch or drawer slide.

I think it’s the piece that covers the hole when you put together the particle board furniture. It slips into the hole once you tighten the screw. The opening slips over the bolt so the holes don’t show. That’s my guess.

all of the above. mostly used on high end stuff or where someone would see the zert all the time. most were lost or tossed early on.
