I forgot to mention it has a patent date if July 1865

Hello,
It appears to be an oil lamp shade holder. I'll search the patent and will post the link whenever I locate it. By chance, is the patent number stamped on it?

FFA (Free Friendly Advice):
I've never seen an object marked with both the US Patent date AND the patent-number. It seems to be you get told either one or the other.

That being said, when a US Patent date is marked on an object, it usually contains the month-day-year, not just the month and year (like Pat. July 1865). ORX, are you quite certain there's no day-of-the-month in the date on your mystery object?

I think it is July 18th 65...not 1865. Hopefully this photo helps. Thank you for the help
