What is this?

I found this while digging up a tree in my backyard I live in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. Near Alentown.
There are no numbers on it. The only writing is "DIEU ET MON DROIT". It was muddy and dirty. I have cleaned it up. I'm not sure what kind of metal it is.
