What kind of buckle is this? Suspender perhaps? Weird Bird. Need Help please!

This looks like some type of buckle, however it is very thin. I found it with the ring still attached at a Civil War skirmish site of General Nathan Bedford Forrest. It also has the dates 18?? to 1870. One pic shows it printed backwards cuz on the other side you cannot see it. I also found this strange bird there. I do not know what it was attached to. Sorry for the shadows, that is the telescopic lens getting in the way. Tried to get a few pics of the buckle in. Any help identifying these two objects would greatly be appreciated.

Yes .. a suspender buckle. One like it was posted on here before, but I can't seem to find the post.

The Bird is what really surprised me. Have never seen anything quite like it before. I thought at first maybe it went on top of a flag or something? Couldn't have been on a U.S. Flag because it's not an eagle. I don't know if the Confederates had a bird on their flag or not. Really puzzling

Maybe somebody got tired of the whole mess and and decided just to flip everybody "the bird"
