Never seen one like that before, very cool! I would guess early-mid 1800s

The raised backmark dates it to the later1700s-about 1820. If we can't determine who the maker is we may be able to narrow that down a little.

That dates it a little later than I first posted. In 1823 Aaron Benedict became connected with Benton Bronson of Waterbury & Nathan Smith, William Bristol & David DeForest of New Haven in a firm making gilt buttons and which operated under the name A. Benedict. This firm lasted until 1829.

I forgot to add that there was no mention of the A. Benedict company making military buttons. I think yours is a fancy gilt civilian one.
