Kind of odd looking marks and impressions in the surface of it.

can you give us a reference mark to show size?
looks like a heated metal that was dropped on to a semi flat surface.
I hesitate to say slag

It's about the diameter of a 50 cent piece. I'm curious why it rings up so high on my f70...in the silver range...I don't know what other kind of metal would register in that range out of ground.

Melted copper or brass .?

I was thinking copper at first but it wasn't green at all which copper in my area normally is.

Coming from No. Mich, are you in iron country? Some sort of iron ore? Limonite is an iron ore, and I haven't found a piece that will ring my detector yet--unless our limonite isn't that rich. I don't know for sure, but I will bet there is at least a dozen different kinds of iron ore. Magnetite, I think, does ring a detector.
