I found this pistol bullet on a civil war battlefield in west central Mississippi today. It measures out to a .32 caliber and has a solid base. I'm hoping it's some kind of civil war pistol bullet. Anybody know what kind of bullet this is?

I did not see one exactly like it but it looks like it should be pictured here to me.

It wouldn’t be listed among those because mine had a metallic case. It turns out to be a Henry Rifle cartridge bullet. Thanks for responding. Mine bullet was probably late War 1864-1865

Sorry to have to disappoint you, but:
Whoever told you your unknown .32-caliber bullet is a civil war Henry Rifle bullet really needs to buy (and deeply read) one of the good ID-books on civil war bullets... and until he has done BOTH of those things, quit handing out "civil war" bullet identifications to guys like you. There was never any such thing as a .32 Henry Rifle. All were .44-caliber.

Your bullet's body is characterized by having a long rounded nose above one deep body-groove, which is located more than just a slight distance above the much-smaller cartridge crimp groove. Also, thank you for including a photo which shows your bullet has a flat solid base. Those characteristics eliminate it from being a .32 Smith-&-Wesson bullet. Of all the pre-1900s .32-caliber bullets I could find on the internet that look very closely similar to yours, it most closely resembles the 1870s/80s Winchester Repeating Arms Co. ".32-Long" cartridge's bullet. (Note the distance between the single deep body-groove and the cartridge crimp line.) You can view one of those drawn on the label of a box of (original, not repro/modern) WRA .32-Long cartridges, at the following link:

By the way... the Cartridge Collector website's archive is an excellent place for you to learn about correctly identifying pre-1900s Cartridge bullets. It identifies (and shows in photos) hundreds of such bullets, listed by their caliber. I suggest that any diggers who want to learn about (and correctly ID) the pre-1900s Cartridge bullets they dig should Bookmark it.

I hope the info in this post is helpful to you.
