Hey guys I did some detecting in an old park area close to a river today and dug this up. It's definitely brass, and I can't make out what it is but it says "Nov 22 1892" anyone have any ideas?!?! It looks like it screwed onto something as well

Is there a hole in the top ?

That's a patent date. Is there a hole running through it? There is a patent for a lawn sprinkler with that date, although I couldn't match the part to any examples I found online. Sometimes a patent covering 'mechanical technology' can be used in many different forms though and the decorative marks running around it are reminiscent of water spraying from a fountain-like source.

I saw a check valve with that date but looked like a gas union with a spring loaded device inside. Maybe they used the same patent. Radiator check valve? Frank Phillippi patent.

So there's no hole at the top, its solid. But inside is threaded like it screwed onto something. Do you think it's from 1892???

Thanks for the clarification.

At the time, US patents were valid for 17 years from date of publication in the Patents Bulletin, so the item was likely made between 1892-1909. There were 422 patents issued on 22 November 1892, many of which can be ruled out. But when you have a small part of potentially some larger device it's still a pain to track down the item without some clue about its function.
