Hi all! My first post here. :hello:

So I found this Thing on Myrtle Beach, SC (East Coast, US) after a major hurricane. It is 2.25 inches (5.5 cm) in length, 1.75 (4 cm) inches in width. It is shaped like a rodent's head, with Asian-style 'eyes' and large 'ears'. There are three incongruous indentions where a 'mouth' and 'nose' should be (could be random pocks). Between the 'ears', the stone is polished nearly smooth, as though it has been rubbed back and forth with a coarse rope for many years. There is also a very slightly raised ridge between the 'ears', in nearly a straight line (I think that should upload as the third pic).

Any guesses? I've been wondering for thirty years :)

Heck, that's an Alien!!!

Thanks, both! I'll find that forum you mentioned.

Bryan: Yeah, you're the third person to say that in the past couple days. I think I'll post it at the Coast-to-Coast AM site, as well ;)

Could be a fossilized bone, due to the symmetry of the thing. A lot of fossils are coming out of SC.

it must of smooth out a bit lost some it's sharper detail

Sorta looks like a snake head...but I am no expert in this matter.

it has been solved in,"what is it"forum...its a lizard skull cap fossil

I took the liberty of removing the 'solved', bigfoot; hope you don't mind if I get a few more opinions. I just can't find an other 'lizard skull cap' pics on the web, and the one you posted doesn't sell me on the idea. I'll keep it in consideration, though. Do you have any other pics/definition of a 'lizard skull cap'?

Sure looks like an Alien Greys head to me. Odd place to find it.

Odd item! Has your luck been different over the past 30 years?

Ever thought of getting it X rayed ?

turns out tamara is right..bi valve clam cast fossil.shell has eroded away..cucullaeas.webp

Oh!! I guess I do know! Cool ID, I never thought that the rock posted was a fossil. Pretty awesome find then.

It's a bifacial clam, where the shell has decomposed and what you have is the petrified interior. I have found hundreds of these in the Myrtle Beach, SC area.

Great subject.

Good ID. Now I can sleep tonight.

Would of dreamed of lizard lips and snake arm pits all night...
