It was probably pressed or pounded in between wood or leather ~ it's hard to say exactly what happened, but it's definately a damaged piece and not a mint-made error coin.

Keep looking though ~ there's plenty of great error coins circulating that are highly collectable!

Okay oddcoin, got a couple more for you,
found in my bucket o cents. I am about half way through.

First one 63D looks to me to be a lamination error??

second is an 83 D with no copper visable on either side

Third, I think this 51S layed against iron which corroded it

I guess all I can find is junk :-\

The 63 cent is indeed a lamination error

The 83 cent is a tricky one ~ it's missing it's copper plating ~ but was it like that before it left the mint? Who knows?! That's an error type I shy away from ~ it's very easy to manipulate that error outside the mint.

The 51 wheat is damaged ~ got miss-handled somewhere by someone!

Take care!
