I am going to be cutting down a large walnut tree 34" diameter and cutting it down for lumber. However, I would like to use a metal detector to check for nails that may have been put in the tree over the last 100 years. What type of dependable detector would get the job done for the least $.

Thanks
Tom

Getting the least for the $ will ruin your saw and be a danger to you and any crew near by. Do yourself a favor and get a quality ACE 250 for about $200.00. The cheap ones from Radio Shack will get you killed by not finding a nail because of it's low gain settings and small detection field. The cheap ones are a joke.

I don't know if my wording was not quite right but you got my jist, the best for the least that would do a good job. Ace 250, ok. How about an older white model Discriminator II? I am just trying to get the most bang for the buck because I probably will not be using it that often, however, I do not want to get something that is junk either.

Thanks
