I picked up a flatware set at auction today. Not that it matters, but the maker is Yap Kui Kee from Thailand. Not sure of the age of the set and it is allegedly brass. It is a 71 piece set for 12, but it is missing 3 pieces. Not a big deal. Enough of that and on the question. I can identify most of the pieces in the set such as the serving forks and cheese knife, but I am unsure as to the purpose of this spoon. Possibly a sugar spoon? I have never seen a spoon with a "heart shaped" bowl. Any ideas?

It's a typical piece found in what I know of as Siam brass flatware. I'm really not sure what its intentional use is, but maybe a utensil to drizzle sauces with.? As for the age I feel they are just one of the many type of items purchased by servicemen during the Vietnam nam War era of the 1960, as I've seen quite a few complete sets sold in antique shops and even some ending up at thrift stores. I've also seen them made in pure .925 silver.

Thanks for all the information. The case has seen better days and the elastic inside is totally shot. There was no inventory list inside, but there was another label which makes me think that this set may have been bought in Hong Kong.

I've seen a lot of these works from Thailand in my search for other things of the old, used and antique things I look for. Sometimes I'll score a piece of Siam silver jewelry priced good, as there's a fair amount of those pieces that show up it thrift stores, antique shops and pm dealers. They all depict specific deities. Some are made with whats called neillo inlay and other with colorful enameling. Interesting stuff there are and much about these items can be found on the internet.

apologies; i left my search criteria in when i posted as a brass sugar spoon. it is a sauce spoon as tamrock stated.

if you look at the worthpoint listing...the list of contents...the first four items are listed clockwise to match the dinnerware. the rest match left to right. the upper left item would be for sugar (most likely cubes back in those days).

Thanks for all the info. I feel that I got a pretty good deal on the set at $25 and the main reason that I bought it was because I need more flatware. Mine keeps disappearing and $25 for a service for 12 (even though there are only 11 teaspoons) seems to be a really good deal to me.
