We found this years ago here in Illinois and fortunately found both pieces. We glued them together, set them aside, and did not think about it again until here recently. What would this have been used for. Scraper?

Forgot to say that it's about 5 inches in length. The axe head we found literally in a rocky area just outside my house by my son.

That could be a preform / blank. Rough shaped in to make a point later and never finished. It could also be a knife as is. Edge wear or resharpenings could point you towards knife use.

Still learning here. This piece is rather wide, about 3 inches. Would they use one this wide for a blank?

I think a lot of times the blanks served as a knife or scapper until they decided to work it into shape. They all started out big most times. Work on it a litle use it if it was working down well it could possible be turned into a point. My opinion.
Nice axe also.

It was found in Illinois and it's not quite 1/2 inch in the middle.

looks like a cache blade that was in the process of being made into a point imo.there does appear to be secondary edge work on it so its possible that is the finished product.nice relic, thx for sharing the pic.
