Multiple coins in one hole is more common than you would expect. People sit down next to a tree, pull their legs up, and out go the coins.
I was once detecting in a fairgrounds, and next to a large tree, I found a Walking Lib half, 2 Standing Lib. quarters, 1 Washington quarter, and 3 Mercury dimes. They were all stacked largest to smallest.
